Teaching the iGeneration; What possibilities exist in and beyond the history classroom
Objectives met 1.Demonstrate understanding of how technology can effectively promote learning. 2. Evaluate and use a variety of current technologies to enhance content instruction and to advance students' technological literacy. 7. Demonstrate an understanding of the use of adaptive technologies and other digital resources to personalize and defferencte learning activities for everystudent.

Technology has changed over the years and has changed the way students learn and obtain information. Nowadays students have access to the world wide web and access to things not around them. They can travel the world without leaving a room,  and do a research paper without having to use a card catalog at the library.

In this article the authors demonstrate how children can learn with different technologies and how that technology can change the way students see the world and access that world. Students are obsessed with technology. They can not seem to get off twitter, facebook, youtube, and myspace to just name a few. The question is why. The answer is that they do not like school and the reason is that this generation is now a tech-savy generation and education has not caught up with this new generation. Children and teen learn differently. They do not want to sit in a classroom and read a book or do worksheets. Their minds have changed and have been rewired. With all the technology they are learning and growing more and they need more education. Teachers have realized that it is not the lessons that they teach but rather the way they are delivered.

In Rosen's observation, students will almost always have technology on them and be ready, willing and able to use it. Rosen has also said that technology enhances the learning experience.
Technology:

  • Transforms an activity
  • Modifying or redefining a process
  • Draw responses
Another way the authors demonstrate technology and promote learning is by auto blogging. This is when students record their thoughts verbally, and publishing them rather than writing them. This is a quicker form of communication. Auto blogging has also helped students become more engaged.
Technology has come a long way. In today's day and age you can do just about anything on a computer, smartphone, or any electronic device if you have internet. Kids today are amazing with technology. They are the ones that would rather grab an iphone or computer and play with it and figure out how it works whereas someone who is older would read the instructions and get aggravated when something does not work.

I feel that technology manipulates kids today. In this article It clearly states that kids are now "rewired." I'm not saying that it is a bad thing, it isn't. But, I do feel that kids need to also learn how to learn the traditional way just incase technology fails. I do however feel that technology is a fantastic way to learn about other cultures, and seeing different photos of other countries, learning about other countries. Some people will never get that chance to see the world and with the web they can.

I came across this article and figured that I would share seeing is how technology is out there and I better start learning quickly.
